Biography
  • Sayyid Hamid is the Executive Director of Oman Center for Governance and Sustainability (OCGS) since 2016, and is member of the board of directors of the OCGS. He is one of the Omani young and renowned leaders on the personal and professional levels as he played a pivotal and pioneering role in the establishment of Oman Center for Corporate Governance of the Capital Market Authority (CMA) when he was working for the CMA, and then the establishment of OCGS which was established pursuant to a Royal Decree on July 14, 2015. OCGS is the first of its kind in Middle East and North Africa region combining governance and sustainability.
     
  • OCGS was able, within a brief period, to contribute to enhancing the principles of governance in public and private sectors institutions and civil society institutions in the Sultanate of Oman, thanks to the leadership of Sayyid Hamid and the policies he set out in the form of guidelines and codes. OCGS issued Sustainability Code, as national initiative which is the first of its kind as reference for all institutions in adopting social responsibility and sustainability. He contributed, as director of OCGS, in disseminating awareness of the concept and importance of governance and sustainability in a number of the institutions of the administrative apparatus of the state, private sector institutions and civil society institutions through delivering lectures and workshops.
     
  • Syyid Hamid has contributions and achievement on domestic or international arena and awarded a number of appreciation certificates from outside and inside the Sultanate of Oman and from the Chairpersons of the Capital Market Authority as best employee when he was working for the CMA. His contributions include but not limited to:
     
  1. Active member of Governance and Institutional Performance Committee of the  Oman Vision 2040.
  2. Active member of the Industrial Strategy Committee of Oman Vision2040.
  3. Head of small team concerned with Oman’s participation in Expo 2020 Dubai.
  4. Member of the Governance team of Education Strategy 2040.
  5. Member of Corporate Governance Committee for the Middle East and North Africa in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
  6. Head of the Team for Development of the Code of Corporate Governance, which was issued in 2015.
  7. Head of the team that prepared the first version of the Code of Governance for State Owned Enterprises.
  8. Member of the Consultative Committee for the Protection of Competition and Monopoly Prevention  constituted by the Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion.
  9. Member of Sectorial Skills Committee for Accounting, Finance and Audit Sector.
  • Sayyid Hamid has more than 20 years of experience in the Capital Market Sector. He held numerous management and leadership roles in the Capital Market Authority and Muscat Stock Exchange (previously Muscat Securities Market). His last role was Director General of Support Services in the Capital Market Authority concerned with legal and legislative issues, investigation, enforcement, awareness and customer service.
     
  • During his long tenure, he acquired vast experience in the capital markets related to legislations, laws, regulations, initial public offerings, trading, surveillance, audit, enforcement, human resources, finance, administration and corporate governance.
     
  • He contributed to many projects, assumed management of teams and constitutive committees in the CMA, and had key role in developing the work. He chaired the CMA in certain times and represented it in regional and international forums.
     
  • He obtained Masters Degree in Business Administration from the University of Cardiff, UK in 2005. His graduation project was on the Code of Corporate Governance issued by the CMA in which he acquired an excellent degree, which resulted in the creation of dedicated department in the CMA concerned with Corporate Governance then.
     
  • He acquired vast, deep and diversified  knowledge through his participation in a number of training programs, workshops and seminars in the various specializations such as strategic planning, leadership, excellence, innovation, scenario outlining and project management in  prominent institutes inside and outside the Sultanate of Oman such as IMD (Switzerland).
