Eun Sung-soo took office as the Chairman of the Financial Services Commission (FSC) on September 9, 2019. Prior to his appointment as FSC Chairman, Mr. Eun served as the Chairman & President of the Export-Import Bank of Korea (KEXIM) for two years from September 2017 to September 2019. He also led the Korea Investment Corporation (KIC), Korea’s sovereign wealth fund, from January 2016 to September 2017.

Chairman Eun began his career in 1984 as a government official in the Ministry Of Finance (MOF). His extensive expertise in economic and financial policy was built from his career path in public service for more than thirty years. He served in positions steering Korea’s financial policy, which earned him hands-on experience in regulatory improvement, financial industry development and corporate restructuring.

His practical knowledge in financial affairs paved the way for him to be at the forefront of fighting against the aftermath of the global financial crisis and the eurozone crisis. From 2011 to 2012, he served as the Director General of International Finance Bureau at the Ministry Of Economy and Finance (MOEF), where he played a key role in stabilizing Korea’s financial markets with macro-prudential measures and currency swap agreements. As Finance Deputy Minister of MOEF in 2013 and Executive Director of the World Bank in 2014, he remarkedly contributed to the promotion of regional and international cooperation.

Chairman Eun received a bachelor’s degree in Economics from Seoul National University in 1984 and earned a Ph.D. in Economics from University of Hawaii in 1996
