Leonardo P. Gomes Pereira

Mr. Pereira is the Founding Partner at Trolltunga Soluções em Governança Ltda. Trollltunga builds and implements  governance solutions and both leads and supports complex negotiations among corporations.

Currently, Mr. Pereira is serving as a board member in four Brazilian public companies (Smiles, CCR Qualicorp and Eldorado). He is also a Director at the Fundo Garantidor de Credito (Brazil´s equivalent to FDIC), a member of the Independent Expert Oversight Advisory Committee (IEOAC) of WHO in Geneva, and an senior Expert at Pacifica Governance, an advisory firm based in San Francisco. 

He served the Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission of Brazil (“CVM”) from November, 2012 to July, 2017 – when his term came to end.   In that role, he led the implementation of  key corporate governance changes in the Brazilian capital markets, such as the Brazilian National Code of Best Corporate Governance Principles for public companies.

Prior to becoming Chair of CVM, Mr. Pereira was the Executive Vice President of Gol Linhas Aéreas S.A., in which both the positions of CFO and head of IR were combined.    During his career, Mr. Pereira has served as officer and as director of companies pertaining to different sectors of the Brazilian economy, including aviation, loyalty cards, communications, media and agro business.  He also worked at Citibank for 13 years across a number of positions and roles in Brazil, Asia, Latin America and the United States, including as Vice President that led the team responsible for Aviation in Latin America and as Director of Portfolio Management Review for Northern Latin America (from Mexico to Ecuador).

Following the end of his term as Chair of the CVM in July 2017, he spent his garden leave as a Visiting Fellow of the International Financial Systems program at Harvard Law School, where he focused his studies on how the implementation of corporate governance principles can enhance market growth and on mediation as an alternative path to solve corporate disputes.

Mr. Pereira holds a degree in Production Engineering from Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, a degree in Economics from Universidade Candido Mendes and an MBA degree from the University of Warwick in the United Kingdom. He has also completed Columbia University’s Senior Executive Education Program and the Executive Program at Singularity University.
