USS was selected as the winner of the ICGN Award for the Global Stewardship Disclosure Award for Asset Owners over £60 billion.

The Judging Panel indicated that USS had an impressive and straightforward approach to its stewardship disclosure. USS offered reports on risk disclosures for responsible investment, with good case studies, and provided a TCFD report. It had accessible voting records which could be reviewed easily. In all, the site was easy to navigate and updated regularly.

David Russell accepted the Award on behalf of USS.

USS provided the following statement in response to receiving the Award: “Last week, USS was delighted to be awarded the ICGN’s Global Stewardship Disclosure Award 2022, for asset owners with over £60bn AUM.  This award has been the culmination of a year of hard work, as we grappled with producing two disclosures: our Stewardship Code and TCFD Reports.  Teams across the organisation worked to set up systems for gathering carbon data, produced scenario analysis, drafted case studies and kept our member-facing web content up to date and relevant. We are committed to producing transparent and meaningful disclosure of our stewardship, engagement and Net Zero progress, and this award is a welcome, tangible recognition of that commitment.”

Brunel Pension Partnership was selected as the winner of the ICGN Award for the Global Stewardship Disclosure Award for Asset Owners under £60 billion.

Brunel was selected for several reasons including the disclosure of their own gender pay gap analysis for transparency purposes, which was impressive. The Panel could tell that Brunel had integrated the assessment of global risks into its investment strategy and it was clear throughout their reports. The Panel liked that Brunel stated their values and commitment to partnerships as a part of its culture, which showed strongly in their disclosure.

Helen Price accepted the Award on behalf of Brunel Pension Partnership.

On acceptance of the Award, Brunel Pension Partnership offered the following statement: ‘As a responsible asset owner, we believe it is not only important to achieve high levels of stewardship and corporate governance, but to walk the talk and be transparent. A lot of hard work goes into our publications, and we are delighted to be recognised for those efforts. There is no higher recognition in this area than an ICGN award, as the organisation has been setting industry standards in this area since 1995. We hope this welcome recognition from such a respected standard-setter means other asset owners are encouraged to target transparency and high levels of risk management in their own approaches to long-term investing.’
