The Push to Regulate Corporate Human Rights Behaviour; Hosted by Fasken
As we emerge from the pandemic, a concerted effort is underway to convert the requirements imposed on corporations, in terms of their human rights footprint, from voluntary to mandatory - from “soft” to “hard” law.
Although Europe has taken the lead in designing mandatory human rights due diligence legislation (mHRDD), North America is not far behind. In Canada, draft mHRDD legislation is wending its way through our parliamentary system with completion of the process anticipated before year end.
This mHRDD legislative push is within the broader context of other related developments aimed squarely at regulating corporate behaviour.
The panel will dedicate its remarks to explaining and interpreting the content and direction of the overall body of work emanating from national governments, the courts, civil society and from within the corporate and investor communities.
Ownership and Control 2022: Concentration on the Rise among Global Equities, hosted by MSCI
An understanding of the governance risks arising from concentrated ownership and control is important to investors. It impacts the ability of minority shareholders to influence the company’s corporate governance, and their ability to hold its directors accountable for their decisions.
The growing concentration of ownership and control of global equities could result in a loss of investor influence, and make engagement with listed companies more difficult, which may also have important ramifications for how companies are governed.
This webinar will discuss the findings from recently published MSCI ESG research on this corporate governance theme in developed markets and its significance for minority investors.
