Dear Delegates,
We are delighted to invite you to the 2008 ICGN Annual Conference in Seoul, Korea, between the 18 and 20th June, hosted by the Korea Exchange and the Korea Corporate Governance Service. The event is officially supported by the Korean Government and the Mayor of Seoul, reflecting Korea’s commitment to sustained corporate governance reform. |
|
This year the event focuses on the globalisation of capital markets and the impact this has on traditional corporate governance. The conference begins with an overview of the international reform agenda led by a keynote address from Ángel Gurria, Secretary General of the OECD, then follows insights from leading figures in corporate governance on developments since the Asia crisis.
Other sessions will explore major global trends including the convergence of reporting standards, regulatory harmonisation and the growing power and influence of proxy advisors. We also have a session focused on promoting dialogue between the companies and shareholders in line with ICGN objectives to encourage greater engagement between the two parties. The final keynote address will focus on capital market risks and the rise of private equity, hedge funds and sovereign wealth funds.
The 2008 ICGN Annual Conference encourages delegates to participate with the opportunity to vote on debate outcomes from keynote and plenary sessions. Hot topic workshops and breakout sessions provide focused debate on major issues including the sub-prime meltdown, cross-border voting, and corporate governance progress in BRIC economies.
The social programme includes a Welcome Reception in the spectacular Korean Gardens of the Shilla Hotel. The Gala Dinner promises a memorable experience at the historic Changgyeong Palace, one of Korea’s National Treasures. Delegates will benefit from a rare opportunity to dine in one of the few remaining buildings of the Joseon Dynesty, dating back to 1418.
A variety of tours have been organised by the Local Organising Team before and after the conference. We invite delegates to bring their friends and family to Korea who will benefit from a full guest programme of activities over the conference programme.
The 2008 ICGN Annual Conference in Seoul, Korea promises to bring together leading commentators in corporate governance from around the world. It provides a unique opportunity to meet with peers, exchange ideas and learn about leading edge corporate governance issues from a global, regional and national perspective.
We look forward to welcoming you to Seoul. |
