ICGN appoints new Executive Director
The ICGN has today announced the appointment of Carl Rosén as its new Executive Director, following an international search supported by the ICSA International. The ICGN is the leading international advocate for corporate governance, with members in over 40 countries, including institutional investors responsible for $9.5 trillion in global assets.
Peter Montagnon, ICGN chairman said “We are delighted that someone with Carl’s extraordinary talents and experience will be joining the organisation. He brings depth from both a business and investor perspective, with impressive knowledge of cross border issues in corporate governance. His sound management background will give ICGN the executive leadership needed to further build the organisation at a time when corporate governance is to the forefront of concern with the international financial crisis.”
“The members of ICGN are most concerned about strengthening shareholder rights and ensuring shareholder responsibility. They want to ensure that markets avoid the dangers of over-regulation that can follow the financial crisis. These questions will be my first priorities as Executive Director of ICGN” says Carl Rosén. “For example, stronger shareholder rights for shareholders are key to curbing excessive executive pay globally, whilst we also need to ensure that ownership rights are exercised with responsibility”, says Rosén.
Carl Rosén currently serves as the Head of Corporate Governance and Communications at the Second Swedish National Pension Fund (AP2), one of the larger pension funds in Europe which has a reputation for shareholder activism. He is a former chairman of the AP-funds Ethical Council which brings together long term investors around an international agenda of sustainability and long term value creation. Carl was elected to the board member of ICGN, International Corporate Governance Network in 2008 and chairs its Membership Committee. He has a strong network in the institutional investor community in Europe, USA and Asia.
Rosén joined AP2 in 2004. Prior to this he co-founded Nordic Investor Services, the proxy advisory firm. He is a former CFO of the state holding company Fortia and former editor-in-chief at the regional business weekly magazine Affärsvärlden. He has investment banking experience from Europe and the United States. Carl Rosén was educated at Stockholm School of Economics.
ICGN embarked upon recruiting a new Executive Director following the appointment of Anne Simpson as Senior Portfolio Manager for Global Equities at CalPERS from May 2009.
