Alastair Ross Goobey Memorial Scholarship
The Alastair Ross Goobey (ARG) Memorial Scholarship was established jointly by the ICGN and Hermes Fund Managers in April 2008 to commemorate Alastair’s contribution as a pioneer of the international corporate governance movement.

ICGN Scholarships provide financial assistance towards the costs of travel and accommodation to attend the ICGN Annual Conference as well as one-year free membership subscription.
Applications are currently being accepted for 2009 ICGN Scholarships. This will fund attendance at the 2009 ICGN Annual Conference being held between the 13th and 15th July in Sydney, Australia. The deadline to submit your application is 1st May 2009.
ICGN Scholarships
ICGN Scholarships provide an opportunity for individuals from difficult or low-income environments to join the ICGN and attend the Annual Conference. The focus is on individuals from countries where corporate governance reform is underway as part of a strategy to build investor confidence and attract the capital needed to fund economic development.
Successful applicants are awarded complimentary membership of the ICGN for one year and a bursary towards the costs of travel and accommodation to participate in the ICGN Annual Conference. In addition, scholars are invited to join the ‘Foundation Alumnus’, a network of ICGN members committed to corporate governance reform in emerging markets.
In 2007, around 60 applications were received for scholarships to attend the ICGN Annual Conference in Cape Town and awards were made to individuals from Botswana, Ghana, Tanzania, Pakistan, South Africa, Vietnam, Kenya, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Malaysia.
The 2008 ICGN Annual Conference was held in Seoul and focused on the impact of globalisation on corporate governance. Award recipients included individuals from Bangladesh, Serbia, Ukraine, Nigeria, Pakistan, Uganda, Zimbabwe, and Nepal.

Amer Hassan, Jr. Joint Director, State Bank of Pakistan, Pakistan
"Mr. Amer Hassan is working as Jr. Joint Director in Banking Surveillance Department of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP). SBP is the central bank and regulator of banking sector in Pakistan. He has 10 years working experience in different functions of banking supervision ranging from inspection & audit, enforcement, risk management, and financial analysis. He has played instrumental role in a number of key initiatives of SBP viz. introduction of banking sector reviews, revision of format for public financial statements, and formulation of stress testing guidelines for banks. Presently, Mr. Hassan is mainly responsible for the preparation of performance & stability reviews of the banking sector and conducting impact analysis of different policy measures for enhancing their effectiveness. "
Asif Ayub, Programme Manager, Bangladesh Enterprise Institute, Bangladesh
"Mr. Asif Ayub is a Programme Manager at the Bangladesh Enterprise Institute (BEI) . He joined at BEI under the Corporate Governance Strengthening Project (CGSP) in August 2005. Before joining BEI, he worked as Sales Coordinator in GTD Bangla Pvt Ltd. He also worked in Mobil Jamuna Lubricants Limited as Executive Sales & Marketing. He is a Business graduate from Bangalore University, India with major in Marketing. Mr. Ayub has participated in BEI-MICG Leadership Conference on Corporate Governance in November-December 2005 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Mr. Ayub has also done consultation meetings on the revision of the NGO Governance Principles with the NGOs of the 6 divisions of Bangladesh. He has also played a vital and team leader role in organizing and giving the logistical support to the international events such as the BEI-MICG Leadership Conference on Corporate Governance in 2005; South Asian Management Forum in 2007; South Asian Conference on Corporate Governance in 2007; Corporate Governance Week in 2008. He is also responsible for drafting the activity reports of the project. Mr. Ayub is currently coordinating the United Nations Global Compact Local Network for Bangladesh. Earlier, Mr. Ayub has led the team in formation and launching of the UNGC Local Network of Bangladesh. Mr. Ayub was honoured with an ICGN Foundation Scholarship to attend the 2009 ICGN Annual Conference held in Sydney, Australia in July 2009."
