2009 ICGN Mid-year meeting: "What does the future hold for active shareowners?"
Amsterdam, Mar 2 2009 - Mar 3 2009
As policymakers are drawing lessons from the current financial crisis and designing the appropriate response to strengthen financial stability, the next ICGN Mid-year Meeting will review the policy responses thus far. It will debate whether we move from the ‘classical’ balance of powers between boards and shareholders towards a new balance of powers between boards, shareholders and government intervention. Does this also imply that boards and shareholders failed to prevent the financial crisis? And what are the implications of this new balance of power for our capitalistic model? Would the so-called stakeholder model be the preferable ‘third way’?
Against this background, the conference will consider the following topics:
- the future of remuneration policies;
- the future of the dialogue between listed companies and shareholders;
- the future of minority shareholder protection;
- advantages and disadvantages of the stakeholder models of continental Europe and East Asia.
