Session 1 – The
Choice of Market & The Effects on the Real Economy
Public debate has focused on the question of whether the USA is losing its historic position as the premier listing choice for publicly traded companies. If so, does this matter to investors? What are the factors affecting the future of the listed market? Competition from other markets? From private equity? And are issuers rejecting the short termism they perceive in the listed market? What is the impact on the real economy? |

3 – What Type of Corporate
Governance System Do Investors in US Markets Want: what is
the balance between regulation and shareholder rights?
What is the right balance between appropriate regulation, litigation and shareholder rights? How in turn are these to be balanced with shareholder responsibilities? What are the roles of the different players in achieving this balance? This session will ask investors in the US market who are experienced in different types of governance regulatory schemes (including voluntary codes of conduct, and comply-or-explain systems) to discuss the pros/cons of different approaches, as applied to the US. |
