The ICGN Award

The ICGN Award is given annually to individuals who, in the opinion of the ICGN Awards Committee, meet the following criteria:

Exceptional achievements in the corporate governance field.
Contribution to significant improvements of corporate governance practices in one or more jurisdictions.
Positive impact, with long-term significance, on one or more economies
Confrontation to frustrating oppositions, requiring vision, courage, and fortitude.
Enhancement of their future corporate governance initiatives through such recognition by the ICGN

The first Award was made at the 7th ICGN Annual Conference in Tokyo in 2001.


2007

The 2007 ICGN Award was given to André Baladi for his pioneering and persevering efforts to promote international corporate governance.  As of 1989, he approached among others CalPERS, CII, IRRC, ISS and TIAA-CREF in the U.S.; ABI, NAPF and PIRC in the UK; the OECD and ParisBourse (now NYSE Euronext) in France.  After addressing the seminal April 1990 CII Meeting in Washington and the Economist December 1991 Conference in London, he organized several ICGN Conferences, co-chaired the first ICGN Corporate Governance Principles Working Group, and is now enhancing governance awareness in the Middle East.

2006

The 2006 ICGN Awards were given to the Australian Council for Superannuation Investors (ACSI), Alastair Ross Goobey, Chairman of Hermes Focus UK and Tomomi Yano, Executive Managing Director of the Pension Fund Association (PFA) in Japan.

2005

The 2005 ICGN Awards were given to Bengt Hallqvist, founder of the Brazilian Institute for Corporate Governance and Peter Clapman, retiring Vice President and head of corporate governance at TIAA-CREF.
